Is there a role for our library in “slamming the boards”?
Possibly, but it could consume an enormous amount of time and energy. Perhaps a trial of an advertisement on one of the answerboards linking the state library as an alternative answering avenue, with staff dedicated to responding to posted inquiries.
In what ways might our customers like to rate or review items in the collection or services you offer?
Obtaining feedback is always important. I guess there would need to be a framework with a foundation and monitoring system in place to make use of the reviews clients make.
I found this picture under brains trust in Flickr. The captions read:
Do not attempt to convert toaster oven into a killer robot; we don't want duplication of work.
Always remove food BEFORE playing 'hot potato' with toaster oven.
Do not use toaster oven as bowling ball, edges are not round enough.

somewhat lost in the widget storm
I am trying to add librarything as a blog gadget/widget.
Thanks to great assistance from a learning 2.0 mentor, it has been sorted.
With the delicious site, I have only succeeded in adding the widget that lets me add a bookmark to delicious from my blog, where I would have liked a widget to take me to the home page of delicious (I hope my use of the term widget is correct).

Week 8: Delicious Librarything
I tried to add delicious as a gadget to my blog... but it says it is broken, so until I achieve a higher geek status, I will stick with the old-fashioned link
http://delicious.com/

Can I see the potential of this tool (Delicious)for research assistance?
This tool definitely has applications for research, in that it displays thought and subject associations that might not have occurred to the researcher previously. It has the potential to broaden things too much, and I think that just needs to be kept in mind by the person using the tool.
Or is it just an easy way to create bookmarks that can be accessed from anywhere?
The only criticism I have so far, is that I can't attach it to my blog, or put it on my igoogle home page.

week 7: video online
I found this video at home some months ago, when I was following up on some music gifted to me.
I am not a 'gamer', and was enchanted by the visuals of this AMV.
I love the development of this new art form.
These are the comments from the maker of this AMV:
"There were a few reasons why I wanted to make this AMV. Firstly, I had originally wanted to make an AMV entirely out of game scenery. The FF and KH series have such nice backgrounds and I thought I could create a bit of an artificial summer vacation for myself :P However, I realized very quickly that there wasn't enough to make a decent AMV, or if there was I didn't have the skill to pass a decent one off. Anyway, I started to slowly introduce characters around 1:30 in partial defeat. The lyrics are just begging to have characters in them.Secondly, a "Burned with Desire" remix to Square RPGs was the first AMV I had ever seen. A friend of mine had made it and I absolutely fell in love with AMVs because of it. His creation was my inspiration, and when I found this version of the song, I thought I would take a shot at it."

RSS
Having a gmail, and google account, I already had an automatically created google reader.
I wanted an RSS feed on wildlife, but couldn't find one I really liked.
I have recently discovered podcasts, and look forward to exploring those I have subscribed to regarding buddhism.
I do think that there are too many options - too many sites to create and maintain and remain uptodate with. It ties people to the computer more. I like the fact that on my google account, I can access my email, reader, youtube and blog. It is good to have a central hub.
What do you like about RSS and newsreaders?
It is a self-tailored, easily digested selection of current information.
What sites did you select for your RSS reader?
What sites did you select for your RSS reader?
SMH, NY Times, Choice online, Powerhouse museum and free buddhist audio podcasts, although I don't think this is actually a feeder?
How do you think you might be able to use this technology in your work?

To ensure you are kept up to date with relevant new developments/technologies/information.
How can libraries use RSS or take advantage of this new technology?

Have their own RSS, have links to other relevant RSS.
Did you find any good examples of other library, or other relevant, blogs?
