I had fun working out the difference between editing and commenting.

I also had a bit of fun in the wiki sandbox, interesting how we learn from others.

I enjoyed wookieepedia.
I find the layout of some sites very dry and difficult to engage with.

I also liked the booklovers wiki, especially the reviews and the layout of the reviews, and how they connected to one another. Also, how this site was linked to the Princeton Library. I liked the toolbars on the Princeton site, the page design is simple, welcoming and easily navigated. Attaching the booklovers wiki to the library page is very clever, I think. It affords clientele who are enthusiastic about books a forum for contribution, and then encourages them onto the library homepage. ?An idea for our library?

What types of applications within libraries might work well with a wiki?

Committee/working party pre-meeting brainstorming.

Integrity and Trust

I found these images on flickR under trust and integrity.

When we sleep we are vulnerable, and trusting of others. As the watchers of those who sleep and breathe in our presence, we are entrusted, for a moment, with vulnerability and fragility. Qualities worth cherishing.

From the library's perspective, I guess that our clientele come to us in some cases unknowing, searching for knowledge and assistance. They trust us to provide it for and to them.

Integrity is a keystone value, which I have always strongly believed in.

FlickR discovery

Looking through the State Library at FlickR, I found this

Aborigines day of mourning, Sydney, 26 January 1938 photo.

The attached commentary was interesting to read, particularly one contributor who noted that it took another 30 years and ten years of solid campaigning before Australian Aboriginal people were granted citizenship OF THEIR OWN COUNTRY!

I had a bit of trouble with the exercise on Learning 2.0 asking me to take a look at the pictures that have been tagged with State Library of NSW. When I choose the tags only option on FlickR as I enter "the state library of nsw", flickr says "We couldn't find any results tagged with state and library and of and nsw".

I don't quite understand the tag business yet, so I'm going to move around the site and experiment a bit to see if I can understand it any better.

What do I expect to learn?

Improved familiarity ywith new technologies.

An ability to share said knowledge with clients and colleagues.

What do I think about lifelong learning?

I love it.

Other blogs found? What did I like?

I have only investigated the sites recommended by Learning 2.0 program so far.

I particularly liked the Southern Highlands and the 90 years to the day after World War diary entries. I like the ability to marry imagination and whimsy with fact.

Use for blogs in SL?

As a new employee I don't think I can comment, unless an existing blog could be used to familiarise new staff with what's going on (such as that already employed by State Librarian and other staff).

Blogs for client audience?

Yes. Marry imagination, whimsy and fact.
